The Howrah Rural District Police seized 192 kilograms of cannabis from two vehicles during a late-night operation on 11 May. The operation, which began at 9 PM, was carried out by the Howrah Rural Traffic Department in collaboration with the Rajapur Police Station. A naka point was set up at Panchla Bauria Crossing to conduct vehicle checks.
During the operation, two vehicles—a Toyota Fortuner and a Mahindra Thar—were stopped for inspection. Both vehicles were found to be transporting large quantities of cannabis. The total weight of the seized drugs amounted to 192 kilograms. The authorities confirmed that the cannabis was concealed in both vehicles.
Four individuals from Odisha were arrested in connection with the seizure. The arrested suspects have been identified as Sameeranjan Naik (28), Santosh Naik (35), Saroj Mohana (37), and Soumya Ranjan Sahu (30). The police have initiated further legal actions and are continuing their investigation into the origin and distribution of the cannabis.
